BLOT: (08 Jan 2014 - 09:18:55 PM)
I went on a brief nostalgia jaunt this past of couple of days, watching old 90s music videos, and have discovered a few things. A) While there are some things I still love and absolutely adore about the decade-of-music I am more over it than I realized. B) There were a small handful of songs [spoiler: 3 that I found just in one watching] that mash up violence, sex, and love into the lyrics. And not only where they released, but were charting singles. What the hell happened in the mid 90s? Is this Nick Cave's fault?
Sample lyric: I can do it you gently/ I can do it with an animal's grace/ I can do it with precision/ I can do it with gormet taste/ But either way/ Either (way), either way/ I want to kill you/ I want to blow you.../ Away (read more)
Sample lyric: Behind the boathouse/ I'll show you my dark secret/ I'm not gonna lie/ I want you for mine/ My blushing bride/ My lover, be my lover, yeah/ Don't be afraid/ I didn't mean to scare you/ So help me, Jesus/ I can promise you/ You'll stay as beautiful/ With dark hair/ And soft skin, forever/ Forever (read more)
Sample lyric: Oh help me Jesus/ Come through this storm/ I had to lose her/ To do her harm/ I heard her holler/ I heard her moan/ My lovely daughter/ I took her home (read more)
Some other songs that I could think of that have a similar collusion from about the same time include:
I'm sure there were more. Any you can think of?
