Summary: Fiasco loans itself well to over-the-top RPG bombasticity, and last night's was no exception, though I think next time I play, I'll go for something a little more straight and hardcore on the roleplaying.

Last night's Fiasco was the most bombastic yet, but I think next time, I'm going for something a little more even-keeled...

Played the Los Angeles: 1936 playset for Fiasco last night. Big players, big dreams, and bad expectations. Partially for stress relief and partially to ratchet up the laughs, played it bombastic. Had a dirty cop working with a mortician to bury money robbed from banks into corpses. The mortician had a thing with his sister (yep). Her insurance agent found out and got pictures. Said insurance agent had a wife who was cheating on him with a Chinese prostitute. Her lost engagement ring brought us back to the dirty cop, who she was paying to get it back (though he was spending the money on gambling). Ended up with the mortician horribly burned, two of us in jail, a couple of failed relationships, and one character hitting it big as a costume designer in Hollywood. Good for her!

Was fun hamming it up. Acting out a loud bank robbery. Bungling a break-in at the agent's office. Many many jokes, most of them rude, and even some physical acting. Would play again (both the style and the playset).

Have recently picked up a playset set around the world of LARPers, which is the one I want to play next. I also want to play the Manna Hotel set, which seems to be hard to link directly, but can be found as July [2010] Playset on down the Bully Pulpit Download Page. While the former would probably be best with a bit of silliness, I do want to try and play the latter a little more straighter, a little more hardcore RP. Characters dealing with real decisions and problems.

At any rate, thanks to the players for coming out last night. It was a blast. Nearly depleted my brain's happy juice for an entire weekend in a two hour go. I'll end with this video, from Bully Pulpit Games, about how to play Fiasco "fast":
